Today, I found out that my doctor wasn't kidding when he said "sudden diarrhea may occur" with my new medication. I learned this while walking my dog a mile away from my house. FML

Hey, OP here :) I've never experienced any side effects from medication (until now), and when the doctor and I went over the side effects together he kind of chuckled when he said "sudden diarrhea may occur". The medication is cymbalta (anti-depressant) so I took it as a joke that an anti-depressant could cause such a side effect, and when he chuckled I really thought he was kidding. I was clearly wrong, haha. Luckily, I was able to bolt home before anything extremely bad happened. My dog enjoyed the quick run a lot more than I did. Still easily one of the most embarrassing days of my life! I've earned the nickname "Shitty pants" from my 61 year old father who is never going to let me forget this. Shitty situation all around! :P

Use the bushes. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Side affects are not supposed to happen but the worst usually done...but saying you stepped in a "land mine" will be the smell excuse

Glad nothing too bad happened, although I'm sure it wasn't any fun. :)

At least you didn't leave a trail behind you :p and kudos for having a sense of humor, even if it is at your own expense. Hopefully the side effects will subside and the medication works as intended.

Might want to give your doctor a heads-up on this so that the next patient isn't caught with their pants down. Wait. IS caught with their pants down ;) If he has patients reporting this he'll take it a lot more seriously when he warns his other ones!

it seems really weird that an antidepressant would cause that.

Let's stop with the shitty puns now :)

I'm on it too! I only got incredibly tired for the first six weeks though as well as tightness in my throat when I yawn which was really strange. At first I mistook it for nausea. Keep up with the meds OP, hopefully your side effects won't last too long.

64 - I'm on Lyrica which is also an antidepressant and did the same thing. When you start taking something new, you body tries to flush it out by producing diarrhea. However, it'll get used to it after a while. That's how my doctor explained it at least! But it only lasted about a week for me.

I tried Lyrica for 3 weeks & had diarrhea dialy the entire time. I had to give up on it & I'm too scared to try a different one.

I am also on cymbalta No side effects here but I understand

I'm on Cymbalta as well and never had that issue. I guess I just got lucky.

I wonder if you're taking the same antidepressant my mom is... It's been, amusing, to say the least.

Diapers for adults will be your friends for the next days!

At least it wasn't in your house.

I would think that had OP been at home then this would not have been an FML.
