Today, I found out that my parents don't know the difference between a foreign person and a deaf person. They've been yelling at our exchange student for the past 2 days. FML

Technically speaking either one understands what your parents are talking about lol. Conceptually if your parents don't know the difference, then FYL.

They've been doing it for 2 years and you're just finding out now?

If it was two years the student would most likely know some English.

Question; where were YOU during the yelling? Were you not in the house?

And they say there are no stupid questions....

Just tell your parents to calm down, and be nice to Fez.

To be honest, reading this makes me want to punch your parents in the face. Are they that arrogant and ignorant?

Resorting to violent thoughts due to ignorance of another is pretty ignorant itself. Reading this makes me just pity the OP's parents (and you).

Common mistake of the language barrier. No matter what nationality, if somebody doesn't understand the language, people often start speaking all the words slower and louder hoping that it will help to be understood. It doesn't help.

33 - It actually does help to speak slower. Louder? Not so much... unless you speak quietly to begin with.

Agree, if a person knows at least a little bit of the language, if they don't, it doesn't help. Body language is the key in that case.

Yeah that happens to my parents (deaf) all the time, it annoys the crap out of them

I guess Canadians are just as dumb as so many Americans.

I was just thinking how it hurt to see that OP was from Alberta. I'm just going to assume that they were Americans living in Canada. There are plenty of Americans up here.

They probably just don't like foreigners... Who does?

It's funny just by the sound of your about me I swear you sound just like the brother of my boyfriend. His brother lives in Edmonton and he lives in Nelson and if it is you wow lol. If you have a sister to boot that's always in trouble I'm betting I'm right small world. Might I add if I am right we read each other to easy and I'm hooped.

Hmm nope! I don't have any family in BC and my brothers married. Not quite the detective now are you! It is a small world though, that's for sure.

And they say youth knows nothing? I speak 3 langagues, My grandma tries to correct my grammar all the time, and she cant use our native language proper

*properly. Trolling grandmas, gotta love 'em! It can be really fun, if you can play them.
