First thing I wondered, too. Who told you that, OP, your spineless ex? Some people will grasp at any excuse to make a break-up not his or her own fault. Your "prestigious" school is something you would never change for him so throwing the blame there via his parents might've just been his ticket out.

Sheffield isnt a prestigious university, and i say that as a Sheffield University graduate.

there doesnt necessarily have to be more of a reason, i know from experience having relatives thinking i am a snob for getting an education.
