How the **** did they get into your kettle? And if so many of them collected somewhere that small and isolated, the rest of your flat must be a horror movie set. YFDI.
actually, it's pretty common for ants to get into kettles, especially if there is some water left in it. It's a source of water for them. It's perfectly normal behavior where I live to check your kettle for ants before boiling another kettle of water. Ants behave different in different places depending on the weather.
