Oh boo-freakin'-hoo, OP. Why don't you quit snorting your ritalin, get a job, and pay for college like REAL people do instead of relying on mommy and daddy. no wonder the coming generations are lazy and self-entitled - they haven't had to work for anything. It's a shame they wasted the money on landscaping, though. They should have taken a nice, celebratory empty-nest trip to Bora-Bora and waved to you while you're filling out your FAFSA form. Welcome to the real world. It sucks. Good luck.
**** your ritalin joke. People's lives get ruined by diseases like that. I've met some brilliant, hardworking people who couldn't overcome the more debilitating forms of ADHD. You are the same as a person who points and laughs at a kid in a wheelchair. The excuse that it isn't as serious is the same as using the kid in a wheelchair to say its ok to laugh at the one in a cane. Truly, I hope karma teaches you a lesson with that soon. Maybe a child of yours will have to go through that struggle.
FYL for having parents that don't give a shit about your education and would LIE to you about your college fund.
This post is the truth.
To the people saying the OP should grow up and put himself through college: What makes this an FML is that his parents spent the money and told him afterwards. They should have told him beforehand so he could have prepared sufficiently. Instead, it came as a nasty shock. Plus, how do all of you know he's not paying for the rest of his tuition with his own money? 20K only buys a bit more than 1 year in state school. It's too bad that you had to pay for college in full, but there's nothing wrong with parents who want to help their kids out, especially if they have the means (which OP's parents probably do). If there are kids who have parents that love and care about their them enough to invest in their education, good for them. Jesus Christ. And OP, looks like you learned your lesson the hard way. I'm not saying YDI, but you should always have a plan B when it comes to important matters like this.
Thats totally messed up. If they were gonna spend it, they should have let you know so that you could start saving up for it and etc, instead of trying to convince you not to go and hiding it. Im paying my way thru college with no help, but I KNEW I would have to do that. And to the people saying YDI, no because he thought he would have some kind of help and be able to get thru at least one year of college. Thats ****** up in so many diffrent ways that his parents didnt care about him enough to not touch the money that was supposed to help him better himself.
People that say the OP deserves it need to think this over. &20,000 may not seem like much, but it was put into a college fund for the OP to use for college. I don't know what the cost of College is in canada, but in te USA, depending on which school you go to, on average $20,000 is enough to pay for 1 school year and a portion of the following year if you attend a in state school. The ****** up thing is that the parents decided to use their son's money for something as dumb as landscaping. THEN they try to persuade him not to attend college. And for those of you who tell the OP to get a job, who's to say he wasn't planning on doing that? He might have planned on getting a job, saving up all of his money to use once the $20,000 was used up..
I get really annoyed by people complaining about college-fund-related things. In New Zealand, you always pay for your own university unless you have really rich parents. $20,000 seems really steep, uni fees in NZ are about US$3200. Is there no such thing as interest-free student loans in the US?
In Canada it's around $5000 a year. The US' education system sucks, they charge ridiculous tuition that you could receive in Canada for 75% less. The quality of education is terrible, no wonder people don't understand they are over paying.
It sure paid off, by the looks of things. That was meant for #201. Why does FML always toss comment replies around like a hot potato?
interest-free loan? in the US? That's hilarious
I don't see why everyone is upset about a highpriced college.... my parents are stupid enough that costed 38,000$.... for a year in MIDDLE school

What is with all these parents using up their kid's college fund or hiding college acceptance letters?? FYL & try a scholarship.
