Today, I get to stand in the unemployment line for the second time in a year because my company can't pay me. My parents own the company. FML

They probably Let you go first because your family. Then you live with them. Cause if you live with them. I would fire you first too

That sucks OP but look at it from the company side as well. This is why family n money dont work. People expect to be treated differently cuz they are family. I work for my father. Im the bookkeeper. I am currently laid off. Well guess what when the company picks back up who do you think he is going to call for his bookkeeper? Me. Just like you're parent did and will do. Be grateful you'll always have a job (if the company stay open that is)

Hmmm get hurt then sue them for workers comp :)

Be grateful they gave you a job and some extra work experience to put on your resume. It's quite possible they themselves probably only hired you to help YOU out.

While I can see work experience can be important, it only really helps a high school student out for college applications, or minimum wage jobs. The fact that the parents hired him and don't pay him is: 1. Bullshit, no matter what you never do that to family 2. Obviously they did it to help themselves out, because one less person to pay = higher paychecks for them And you can't say as an adult you would want a job where you weren't being paid, especially in this type of economy

ANY work experience is good to have on your resume when you're job hunting, no matter how old you are or if you got paid. If you have any relevant experience, including a college class, you can put that on your resume as well.

been there, it sucks. I don't talk to my "mom" anymore. havnt for over a year n I have a way better job with benefit and got a cadillac ...she's pissed she lost

You gained a Cadillac, but lost your mother. Sounds like you both lost.

That depends completely and entirely on the mother. Unfortunately, not all mothers are good mothers.

True, but sad, regardless. You only have one.

It might be time to cut the cord friend. We are all hurting these days financially.

Doesn't matter. Work is work you get paid.

Join the military. Good pay, free dental, a caring family, AND you get to shoot people

Sorry that nepotism is not your friend...they are running a business though, and you were an employee and perhaps not the most valuable one...
