Today, I got a call at 4 in the morning from the security company, saying someone had broken into my workplace. I drove an hour out there, only to find out it was a rat that had set off the alarm. FML

Maybe the rat belonged to a rival company which they raised and trained so it can spy on you. Be very careful OP.

Well look at it this way if you hadn't driven out there it might actually have been a burglar although I don't know why the police didn't get there first. .

I sadly have bad news for you even with alarm system if the shortest responder take an hour to get there...could clean it and make me a dinner and leave and be gone by that time

A Republican? Wow, that sucks!

Better safe than sorry. But why wouldn't they send the cops instead?

They alert the security supervisor first, to make sure it's not a false alarm. Fines for false alarms can be rather hefty.

Could be worse. At my work, it got of when the blowers still are on... Happened a few times already...

My old job asked me to give my address and phone number to the security company and I said "Don't bother calling me, I don't get paid enough to get out of bed in the middle of the night for this place"
