Today, I got a phone call to say my workplace was closed due to extreme weather conditions. Looking forward to my day off, I then realised the boiler was broken and my house has no heating despite there being a foot of snow outside. I'm spending the day in bed, wearing all my clothes. FML

Whatever you still got the day off work stop complaining!

admit it,you would've spent your day off in bed anyway

You used despite wrong.. Despite is used to say something happened even though I took measures to prevent it. It is pretty much synonymous with "in spite of". "The boiler is broken despite having it recently serviced" The way you used it, it sounds like the snow should be providing you heat.

Oo BRR! Im completely intolerant to cold! Been living in Virginia all of my life but I can never get used to cold winters and hot summers. Anything below 5OF or above 7OF and Im cranky

YDI because there are things you could be doing to warm up besides laying in bed. It will take longer to get warm that way.

you'll be warmer if you're up and being active, it's true. anyway just put on layers - cami, thin shirt, thick shirt, windproof coat; leggings, jeans; liners, socks, heavy boots; gloves, hat, and scarf - and then go have fun going about your business, be that putting snow tires / tire chains on your car and running errands or sitting around watching tv. take this from someone who's lived in normally -20 deg weather :)

That's why a wood burning fireplace is nice for a house. We have two in our house but not wood....a gas ones.  Could you go to a friend's house nearby that has working heat?

a foot of snow is extreme weather?? I would hate to live where you live. I love snow!

yup, a foot of snow means the entire UK grinds to a standstill. it's pathetic really.

where I live, a snow flake gets school cancelled
