Today, I got a question wrong on an exam. The question started with, "In your opinion..." FML
I agree, your life sucks 14 648
You deserved it 1 992

Same thing different taste

Opinion is not synonomous with wild incoherent BS. If you can't defend your opinion with logic, then it should be marked wrong.

Unfortunately, exams never want your opinion. What this really means is, "Write a balanced answer based on facts from both sides". It sucks and it's annoying, but that's how it is! Took me a while to get to grips with it but once it clicks, you'll be fine! And it's actually easier to write like that in the end

Just because it's an opinion doesn't mean it's automatically correct.

You must not have defended your opinion well enough. You still should have backed it up with fact.

It's an exam. What were you expecting? No possible failure state? That would defeat the whole purpose of an exam, you bint.

Then you learned an important lesson. Opinions absolutely can be wrong, particularly when they aren't based in fact or backed up with adequate proof. I can say it's just my "opinion" that the earth is the center of the universe, but it's still wrong. An opinion is supposed to be a personal conclusion drawn after a thorough perusal of related evidence, not something you pull out of your ass and assume is somehow unassailable because you slap an "opinion" sticker on it.

I love the idea of an opinion sticker! If I had some I would put them up all over. "Hmm... This stop sign is just an opinion." *slaps sticker on and blows through intersection*

They most probably didn't want your own opinion. They wanted whatever bullshit the school is forced to teach you.

In my opinion, the sky is purple, Wednesday is a food group, and 1 + 1 = potato. But since I said "in my opinion" I'm not wrong, right?

I want to give this more thumbs up...

These questions nearly always end with "justify your answer" or similar. It's also an important lesson in general - nobody is intersted in your opinion unless you have sound reasons for holding it. Opinons are like assholes - everybody has one.

not the teacher you need nor the teacher you deserve -.-
