Today, I got ancestry DNA tests for my parents and myself. The DNA testing company informed me that I'm a 50% match for my mother but I share no DNA with my father. Apparently, both my parents forgot that they used a sperm donor. This insignificant detail has slipped their minds for 35 years. FML

Even though it would have been best for them to tell you, maybe it just didn't matter to them because they know that the real parents are who raise you, not who you are biologically from.

That sucks FYL! but as long as your "father" treated you with love and raised you as his own, then remember the good memories and know he loves you just as he would if you were his real son

They must have wanted you so much :) You should feel very lucky OP!

Well… that's always a great surprise :/ u must not have looked too different from ur parents if u didn't notice for 35 years

That just means they love you and it doesn't really matter to them that he's not your biological father. Sucks that you spent the money for the test but otherwise, it doesn't really affect anything.

I agree that one test should not change who you are and how you feel about yourself and your parents, however, the lie (or omission) is a hard pill to swallow. They should have been very open about this with you. Nothing stays hidden forever.

Why would you do this if you didn't suspect some funny business in the first place? Seems you got what you were looking for.

At what age should something like this be disclosed though? Too young and they won't understand. Too old and they'll be pissed off. The teen years is a bad time to discuss anything important because they're pissed off most of the time. I understand the medical history aspect of it so at least when they become adults they need to know. 35 is a little late.

So what if they used a sperm donor? They raised you as their child and loved you as their own. Your father may have been infertile and unable to get your mother pregnant. Just because he isn't your biological father doesn't mean he isn't your father.

They used a sperm donor. So what? Best guess is your dad didn't have the strong swimmers to do what had to be done. Plenty of couples go through sperm banks! Doesn't mean he's not your dad, and they didn't HAVE to tell you. That's like being "by the way, mommy an daddy couldn't make babies the normal way, so you were grown in a test tube." Doesn't matter as long as they love you and gave you the life you deserved.
