Same with me- boyfriend told me to try the beta (I was dead-set against paying monthly for a GAME), got instantly hooked. Four years later, my boyfriend and I are still playing WoW together when we can't be together IRL. Turned out to be a great thing for us! ^^

WoW is awesome when you have the right group of friends. My boyfriend and I play, everyone just assumes that all of us are hardcore players that have no life, when that really only makes up about 3 percent of WoW's population.
