Even if you were you shouldn't be able to be fired for that.
I'd fire you too if you were a Trump supporter.
looks like someone cant handle other people having different viewpoints from their own
If it was your day off you can spend it going to a Trump ralley legally and I doubt they can fire you. If you pretended to be ill then YDI but if you were actually ill then FYL and they can't prove you were at the ralley.
Hahaha, I love this. I wonder why this person would be believed, perhaps the punishment is deserved? And in a right-to-work state, you can be fired for whatever the ****.
What IS a right to work state? It sounds like all it means is that you can be fired for anything which is really ironic.
Right to work has nothing to do with anything. That means you don't have to join a union. He means work-at-will, meaning employees and employers can quit or fire without notice, cause, or penalty. However, arbitrary firings result in unemployment being paid. Additionally, employees may quit without penalty. That means if they have the password to sensitive documents, and quit without notice, they don't need to provide the passwords or whatever.
omfg that is defamation! Calling you a Trump supporter? That is an insult but no reason to fire you..
Time for a lawsuit. They can't fire you because of your political interest. That's discrimination
That is way illegal.
Your coworker is one bad hombre!
They can't fire you for that.
Hi guys, OP here. First off, this was not a sick day. I live in New York. Trump was rallying only in Florida the day I was off.. I did not even attend a rally to begin with, it was a lie from a coworker that happens to be great friends with my ex-boss who is known to be a strong supporter of Clinton. So I was clearly fired for political views, even though it was pure lies. I will be contacting HR.
okay. I find this fishy because I'm unsure how you would know your coworker told a lie about you to the boss without the boss ratting out who tipped her about you. which would be a risky move. But in the worst case scenario, an if what you said is 100% true, then you can always feign as if you are going for a wrongful termination lawsuits based on politics which is a taboo thing to get involved with in 99% of business. I say feign because if you go through with it, it probably wouldn't be worth the legal fees in the end and if you lose terribly you might have to reimburse the other sides legal fees as well.... so pretend to visit your coworker and boss (make sure the worker is there) and make a statement about why you believe you were fired and what your lawsuit is about and make sure your coworker knows she be brought to the stand (and thus under oath) to testify about whether or not she lied. She might then later confess to her boss privately and you'll get your job back as the boss would want her friend to get into trouble (and I figure if they are that close she wouldn't fire your coworker either as they would think you must be terrible to them or whatever. But as you could get your coworker in trouble via a lawsuit then she would give you the job anyways. (You aren't by any chance. Trump supporter are you. as awful as that would be, it could help in the ploy as it gives the boss less of a reason to get mad at your coworker for lying as your boss as a Clinton supporter would not like you much if you were a trump supporter for obvious reasons. But that being said, I don't really believe there isnt more to why you are fired so I wouldn't do my suggestion. but if you are telling the complete truth, it wouldn't hurt to do it. worst would be that you don't have job currently and hey you already don't have a job currently... and it's not like your boss would give you a good recommendation anyways sooo... /shrug.

You shouldn't be able to be fired because of your political views... even if it was your coworker that said them. Talk to HR.
If u have a signed proof that u took the day off then u should not be fired.
