Today, I got into an argument with a militantly feminist co-worker of mine. She threw several vulgar insults at me and debased the entire male gender before storming off. I'd only asked if she needed help while she was doing a crossword. FML

Not all feminists are like that. In fact if you believe in equal work for equal pay, you are a feminist. Some women hate men (often rape/abuse victims) and use being "feminist" as an excuse. She has the problem OP, and needs therapy.

equal work and pay is equality. the word feminism itself is a female centric word that supports solely women, therefore sexist.

In fact - I'd go one step further and say a woman who stays at home and looks after the kids because she is capable of evaluating the pros and cons and making decisions for herself - because SHE wants to, not because of her husband wanting her to - that's a feminist too. Otherwise, we go too far the other way - implying that a woman who doesn't want to be full time career-chaser - is 'letting the side down' for women everywhere. Then women feel pressurised into squashing their femininity when they don't want to by all the 'radical feminist' viewpoints. As a guy, the whole feminism thing is a great idea, but I think should be re-termed 'equalism'. 'Feminism' ought to be reserved for the sort of man hating, bitter individuals that Op had an experience of just then. Oh well, my friend. I feel for you. FYL.

Also, the way you ask. Maybe, OP said something like, "hey, I know you are mostly used to just either hanging out at malls or cooking for your boyfriend, so why don't I use my superior male intellect and give you a hand? Oh, and make me a sandwich instead of just standing around. "
