OP, sometimes these things happen. The tech could be new and barely out of school.
I would have literally murdered him, I'm deathly afraid of needles, one time, it took 4 nurses to hold each of my limbs with both of their hands and a big burly man doctor to come and push his arm over my chest to hold me down for an iv, this was when I was 14... I'm almost 17 now
Cry a ******* river
Im 16 and have Juvenile arthritis, and when I had my MRI done, there were two techs there to give me my IV, and the first one tried 3 times, then handed it off to the other tech, who tried twice, before they finally deciding to take me down to the nursing station so that one of the nurses that give IVs can put mine in. She also had to try twice before she got it in my wrist. I also have to get blood tests every two weeks, and they usually dont get it the first time either
Oh I'm sorry! I have had that happen before. It was pretty painful.
been told by nurses they wanted to use me as a practice dummy for nurses in training as its soo easy to hit the veins on my left arm, yet the new nurses at the local clinic cant hit the vein without doing like 2-3 tries every single time they draw blood(i have Diabetes type 2 and need to go in for regular check ups) i have started to ask for nurses that can draw blood properly now as i dont want to look like a drug addict seriously hoping the vein visualisating tech really kicks off and starts to become a standard practice
i once had a nurse take blood in a health clinic, but she just pushed the needle all the way through, causing bleeding under my skin half way down to my wrist. she just said "sorry i am used to the thicker skin of aboriginals". No she was just a useless bitch. So sometimes it IS the tech. So yeah, i got blasted by my mother for being a heroin addict. You'll just have to wear long sleeves until it heals. If its summer, then arm warmers.
3 attempts isn't bad at all. One time it took the nurse about 10 tries and the worst part is they never got it and I woke up later that night to and my wrist was huge because the iv never went into a vein.

As a phlebotomist in a major hospital, this is extremely common and unavoidable, especially if you are dehydrated or have crappy veins. It's not necessarily the tech's fault.
Try warm packs if you have bumps and cold packs for the bruises with some tylenol or ibuprofen and the bruises and bumps should clear up quickly. Hang in there OP and I hope your CT results come out ok. - Nurse Becca
