Today, I had artfully managed to avoid anyone knowing that I was moving into a trailer park. I showed up at the trailer where all my friends, co-workers, and exes were waiting. My parents knew I was feeling down and wanted to throw me a surprise 'moving in' party. FML

In a lot of areas, such as the one I live in, trailer parks are not very nice places to live. In these areas, those stereotypes are actually true the vast majority of the time. I can see why (if the OP lives somewhere like this) he/she might not have wanted people to know. And it's not about cheap living. There's often a reason that it's cheap -- it's a bad place to live.

my best friend lives in a trailer park. she loves it. yeah, for most of her life she's been called trailer trash but she's come to accept it because it's not going to change and she loves where she lives. it's where you live now. so what? you just have to accept it. i WANT to live in a little condo or trailer when i'm older. they're cute. and little. i love them. and i'm sure everyone you know isn't going to judge you for it. if they are, then they probably aren't your real friends.

Aww, I'm sure in this economy no one is going to judge. At least you have your own place. Just don't get a mullet.

I'm happy to find that most of you seem to be caring, empathetic folks. The OP shouldn't have been embarrassed by the move, the real world is not all popular kids from high school. In fact; if you look 2 doors down you're likely to see the football captain (or whatever they call it) and HEAD cheerleader. I believe that the less 'plastic' the folks you associate with, the richer life you'll have. Take Care All. :)

Until people aspire to live in a trailer and stop making jokes about trailer trash and people stop fulfilling the trailer trash stereotypes, I don't think the OP can be called a jackass for not wanting to live there. Also, anyone that lives in a trailer park should stop for a second and ask him or herself if that is where he or she really wants to live. If you can swear that you'd not rather be able to live and afford a penthouse or a mansion or even just a house or whatever you consider the highest form of living, then you can judge him.

hey at least they care for you. and their reaction of you living in a trailer park has already happened so no need to worry bout that. im rele sorry -huge huge hugs-

wait, how did they know? and i love how people are acting like living a trailer is a prideful means of living. go get a well-paid job and buy a real house. i would advise you others to stop JUDGING him for being judgmental of trailer homes.

What the hell is wrong with living in a trailer park? Then again, I don't really know how they are in other parts of the country, but the ones around here are pretty nice (albeit usually full of old folks).

Whats a trailer park anyway? Like a caravan?

the only FML here is the way you view trailers and the people who live there. and if the people at the moving in party would judge you because of the trailer, you don't need them in your life.
