Today, I had shelves installed using a builder who came highly recommended by my co-worker. Turns out the builder is her friend, who has no actual qualifications or experience as a builder, but 'it's his dream'. I now have a gaping hole in my kitchen where the shelves should be. FML

Store your goods in said hole. Problem solved.

Go to his house and let him know it was your dream to be a wrecking ball operator

Don't be so hard on the guy. It takes a bit of time to experiment and discover your true talent. Obviously, there's still a great future for him in the building trade - as a demolition contractor.

Was it Tim the tool man tailor ?

Didn't bother to ask him questions about experience first? YDI op!

Yes well brains and common sense are lacking to lots these days. Just did a fix it job on this supposed "add-on" that this "carpenter" built. The owner said: well he went to school for it. HA. Experience trumps any kind of carpentry school. This thing he built deserves an FML all together, as the city inspector came to provide us demo permits and had a good laugh. People ask for references not credentials. In trades there is a big difference between learning it in school and doing it hands on.

Should have checked him out before getting him to do the work

Nobody gets walked on unless they want to be.

I would want to smack the shit out of her for recommending him, knowing that he wasn't qualified
