sonnyrosa tells us more.
I'm sure there are labor laws that are supposed to prevent stuff like this, but when the roads are closed, and no one can get in (even the buses have stopped running, and a lot of people reply on those to get to work), there's nothing that can be done. I'm stuck here, but I'm getting paid for it... hopefully, this snow crap stops before tomorrow morning, otherwise, I'll be stuck again. It's still coming down like mad :S

They will not and are not obligated to pay overtime or anything at all unless the OP is on the clock and actively working. Being physically present at the place where you work doesn't mean you automatically get paid for it. It does suck though... I wouldn't want to be stuck like that!
Hmm... well, I'm not scheduled to be working right now, but since I'm stuck here, filling in for another guard who couldn't make it in the weather, hopefully, I'll at least get paid for it! I guess I'll find out on my next pay stub!
When this happened to my stepdad when he worked at an old folks home he got paid double do go brave the storm in his built toyota 79 land cruiser and drive around town to pick up all if his coworkers
What will you ever do with all those extra snow shovels you're producing?
I think they would have to pay you for it since you are working and filling in for someone else!
Wow, im glad i started this debate
How is it funny to say you're as everyone writes ur too?
#74. If you left without your relief there, you could be fired for abandoning your post. If you're working, you will be paid.
Do you live to work, or do you work to live? Or are you snowed in and can never leave work?
When I read this, I thought of Dr. Suess ... I do not like green eggs and ham!
2,obviously OP works to live or she would not be writing an fml about being stuck at work. And this whole situation is centered around the fact that she is, indeed, snowed in and cannot leave. I have no idea how your comment has a positive number of thumbs because it's pretty obvious that you saw an opportunity to post one of the first comments and swindled it by restating facts that we already knew.
#130 you must be new here
Well #130's name is definitely right!
Well, since there is a blizzard business will be slow
Could go either way
Depends on the OP's profession.
She could work at a call center or many of the other jobs that dont require other people to actually be present. There are jobs other than fast food and grocery stores..
That snow good :(
Get some warm water in a container and the snow will melt!
I don't know how many blizzards you've been in, but it takes a hell of a lot more than that to get your car out of a snowbank that's up to your head.
Can't warm water crack your windshield when it's snowing?
I think it can, but it doesn't matter... I can't find my car in the snow anyway HAHA
Congrats... finally an FML published after 30 attempts ;-)
Halifax hmmm... you may have to stay more than one night in the office then.
haha... I know, right?
Actually, warm water freezes faster than cold water. It caused by some of the corks of being a polar molecule as well as expanding upon freezing.
Dang. I bet ur cold.
Nah, he's toasty with that one container of warm water #5 mentioned.
39. She's, not he's :)
What a punk sign.
That really sucks OP
Construct the MEGA DESK! Or combine cubicles to make a fort!
If you were home, you couldn't do anything anyways. Plus, you are getting paid and you have no way to spend it. Come spring, you'll be rich!
No, I earn my living, thanks
Shit its a joke. Don't take it so hard. I've been reading all your comments on this FML and you just sound whiny and bitchy.
Gee, I wonder why
