Today, I had to have a long and awkward meeting with my boss. It wouldn't have been too awkward though, if I didn't have to avoid staring at her exposed breast whilst she fed her 8 week old baby. FML

Wow, didn't realise this would get so much attention so quickly. Thanks guys! Not suprised that this has stirred a debate on breast feeding as a whole though... To clarify, my boss has recently had a child (duh!) and has therefore been on maternity leave. This is the first time she's come back to work. I actually work in a research lab, and so my boss gathered myself and a few of my coworkers (a doctor and a PhD student) together in an office to discuss the progress of our research since she's been absent. I didn't mind having the meeting, I didn't mind that the kid was there too, and I definitley didn't mind her having to feed the child (nor do I ever mind when any woman has to do this, but especially in this case because she asked us all if it was OK to feed her before doing anything). But I have never had to work so hard on maintaining eye contact in my life! Awkward!

I had a similar experience with a professor I was doing research for once. We were in the middle of a weekly advisor meeting when all of a sudden (without warning), she whipped off her bra and completely exposed herself to me as she proceeded to feed her baby. I generally think breast feeding mothers should be accommodated since it's a good and natural thing, but I was very shocked and uncomfortable.

And she didnt even ask if you were hungry...?

I would have seen that and said that i would come back when she wasn't busy. It is very unprofessional of her. She can feed her baby but not whilst doing actual work...

Ask if you can have a suckle on the tete!

I'm amazed by the responses on here. Babies feed on demand, not at set times. At 6-8 weeks a baby has a growth spurt and a breastfed baby will need to feed a lot, almost constantly, to increase the milk supply. It is illegal in the uk to request any woman to stop breastfeeding, doesn't matter where it is.

Should have the little fellow to move over, and suckle the other one. You know you guys were thinking the same thing ! Why in the world would she think it is ok to breast feed directly with you there?

Get the **** over it asshole. Just because you have the maturity level of a prepubescent boy doesn't mean that a mother shouldn't be able to feed her child when needed. I bet if she were hot you'd have no problem with it. Dick.

This is probably the most idiotic reply I've read so far. It has nothing to do with maturity levels; it has to do with courtesy and common sense. Was there an issue so pressing that she couldn't have said to her employee, "I have to feed my baby, could we meet in ten minutes when I'm done?" I'm sure the OP would have been more than happy to accommodate her.

There's a time and a place for everything. Breastfeeding while at a work meeting = NOT OKAY, you ******* moron.

Yeah but if it was a girl with exposed breast that'd be just fine right?

I nursed all my boys... But there is a time And a place for everything. The boss was rude, and very unprofessional. I think bitches take "it's natural... What is the baby suppose to starve?" way to far.. It's about respect.

Can I uh, can I get some of that?
