having just moved to cardiff from southampton, im in a similar situation to OP. however, rather than sit and mope about it, i'm throwing myself into making friends at work, which seems to be working. i can only suggest OP does this as well. it's cheaper than hiring hotels if nothing else (Y)

Identify what about you prevents you from having friends and work to change it. You deserve being alone if you maintain your behavior and it hinders you from having friends.

I was in the same boat, I'm still getting over crippling social anxiety. My family didn't understand how difficult it was at first, but slowly with their help I'm getting out more and finding people with similar interests and hobbies. It takes time and understanding between you and your family, and maybe counseling to show you how to change. It's not impossible.
