This sucks. It's also why police reports and small claims courts exist. Sorry about your knife :( That's like a musician having someone destroy their instrument, or an artist have someone put their brushes through a woodchipper. It can be more than just a tool when it's not just expensive and necessary for your career...but has some emotional/symbolic importance, too. I hope you get every dollar of it back from him...and make him stand up in a court and in public where everyone else can see him, too. If you do, make sure you announce it on facebook where his friends can all see it too ;)

It’s good thing you broke up with him sooner than later because if he is able to destroy something like that out of anger then he will probably make your life miserable if you stayed in the relationship with him.
