I said YDI. First of all, that must be some HELLA old cake to have acquired maggots. Secondly, you would thing MOVING ANIMALS in your cake would have attracted your attention before the first bite.
It only takes a few hours for an egg to hatch a maggot. So if the OP left her cake out of the oven for a few hours, then a fly got on it, then she iced it...it's entirely possible that's how the maggots got into it. Either that, or her local bakery has a clear lack of hygeine when baking their cakes.
Well you just cured me of ever eating chocolate cake again.
