after reading this and pondering for a moment there is a serious Pysch issue at work here commonly refered to as codependency. while mom complains truthfully she is enabling her sons behavior much like many wives do with their husbands drinking. the deeper more disturbing issue is that of the son who no doubt has some serious issues be it social personality issues likely borderline personality disorder or bipolar issues that are untreated. i don't know of many who would want to be in that situation even that of the son so to me there is serious issues there. sadly my wifes cousin had issues and lived with his mom in SC when she moved to Kentucky he chose to stay behind because of his friends. he was dead within months.
After reading this comment and pondering for a moment I realize that unless you have a degree in psychiatry, you should probably refrain from armchair diagnoses. Also, ever heard of Occam's Razor? The simplest explanation is that he's lazy and knows he can get away with it, and she's a pushover. Simple.
That is not even near being the simplest explanation! How would some normal 38 year old with no issues be living with his mom with no job? The rational explanation is pretty obvious, something IS wrong with that man. It might be depression (its pretty common). I have it so I know what its like. And it sure does look like he's got it too. Not having any motivation to do anything, not wanting to move elsewhere even though he'd have a better life away from his mom, acting child-like and being upset when she suggests he do something... it all makes sense. He's either very depressed or he has some other issue. And if you were truly using Occam's Razor, the simplest explanation would be that he's possesed. Whenever someone is acting off, they're possessed. Simple, easy explanation, no further details needed. See how that doesn't always work or even make sense?
uh, kick him out then?
what the ****?? grow some balls and kick him out!
ahahahaha sounds like one of my old gym teachers...except he actually had a job...he just still lived with his parents (he's in his 30's) and played video games all night...
I'm sorry...
YDI because you shouldve put your foot down a long time ago. Some people need a little push in life...apparently this guy needs a swift kick in the ass!

Did you ever think about addressing this problem a little earlier?
YDI for letting it get that far. Just throw his stuff out and change the locks. The guy is 38 for ****'s sake.
