Today, I overheard my dad telling his work buddy that he's disappointed in his kid. I assumed he meant my brother, for flunking out of school. He meant me, for quitting sports to focus on my studies. FML

He'll regret saying that when you succeed ten years later.

Keep dreaming, Jumber. According to the NCAA, there is a 0.44% chance of a high school baseball player getting drafted by a MLB team. That doesn't mean you'll make the big leagues, this is just getting drafted. The numbers for football and basketball are less than 0.1%. Focusing on athletics rather than academics is foolhardy at best, and completely ******* stupid at worst.

Your father will change his mind when he is old and sees what you've accomplished in life. you will probably be able to support him financially. don't worry up, show him that you were right and if you can't the future will!

THANK you Doc. If you is decide to do sports I'd definitely have something good to fall back on for if it doesn't pan out the way you planned. Listen to this man, Jumber. He's a doctor.

Hey 1, if you're in university, and even got a scholarship, then why does your profile say you're 17 and a high schooler?

Funny story, I gave up lacrosse in high school to play football because my old man wanted me to. I dislocated my elbow during practice, not getting to play in a single game all season. After healing up, I dropped football and started working at the neighborhood vet clinic, something I had always wanted to do, definitely pissed him off even more. But whatever, it was the best feeling in the world when I got my acceptance letter from vet school and waved it around in his face! Point being, you gotta do what you gotta do is right for you OP, it's the only way you'll find happiness and to Hell with what your father says or thinks, you'll show him some day

Yeah that does suck. On the bright side it sounds like your dad is the dumbass and not you

Jumber, sorry my first statement was vague - I meant that 0.44% of high school baseball players will go on to be drafted by MLB, not just straight out of high school. Your saying that sports is "more exciting" than studying is obvious, but you're called "student athletes", not "athletic students". Student should ALWAYS come first. I congratulate you on your scholarship and wish you the best. I hope you do make it to the bigs someday. Just don't count on it.
