Today, I overheard my dad telling his work buddy that he's disappointed in his kid. I assumed he meant my brother, for flunking out of school. He meant me, for quitting sports to focus on my studies. FML

He'll regret saying that when you succeed ten years later.

Jumbar, I'm sorry to say that if that's actually you in your picture, your smoking will ruin your chances of getting a career in sports. You won't be able to run without hacking up a lung.

Ask him how he feels in 20 years when you are successful, he's old and poor & your brother's still living at home.

Jumber I wasn't talking about your likes of sports and music. I think 74 pretty much summed it up. Your profile says you're in Florida and attending high school, yet you commented that you're attending a university on a scholarship in Michigan, playing baseball. So yes that's quite an imagination you have. Dream big, keep studying, work hard, and best of luck to you and hope to see in the majors someday.

Maybe you didn't get the full story maybe he's EQUALLY disappointed in both of you?

I understand how you feel, OP, but don't read too much into it. Your dad was probably just really proud of you for doing sports and academics and disappointed that you were forced to give it up to focus on schoolwork. If it really bothers you, then talk to your dad about it instead of sulking. Chances are, he's not disappointed with YOU personally but rather your brother that dropped out.

no offense but just because people favor academics doesn't mean they will be successful in life. my parents clear 350-400k a year combined and my dad only made it to grade 12 and my mom to grade 10. mostly every one I know who went to school makes 20-50% less then the ones who didn't. the key to making good money is working hard not being smart necessarily. smart people are a dime a dozen these days, hard workers are more and more rare. not saying it's bad to be smart tho lol, I take my academics quite seriously myself.

Kids need to figure out how to balance their time, sports are required in my household, they instill good values and character. Ydi

In YOUR HOUSEHOLD, Not the op's. Don't say the op deserve this because of your beliefs, dipshite...

All I'm saying is that sports put more character into a kid then any book ever could

Everyone has value, if even only to serve as a bad example. In this case, your dad falls into that category.
