Don't leave him, OP. Not for that, anyway. There are plenty of great guys in the world who don't gush mushy, romantic poetry all the time. When he does, tell him you appreciate hearing those things and return a mushy thing of your own. He'll get better, and at least you're not stuck with a song singing, poetry writing pussy. Enjoy your real man.
Define "real man".
Apparently guys who sing songs, write poetry and are romantic are NOT real men. I never knew. Not sure what "real men" are. I though they were all real
Thought*
Soo it's your stereotypical male who is incapable of feeling love and isn't romantic?
Yeah yeah! Listen to twisted_cherub! If your man doesn't boss you around, backhand you every now and then, and keep you in line, he ain't a real man! **** that. You want to know what a real man is? One who respects women. That's it.
DocBastard, Your comments always amuse me. But after seeing this comment, I think I love you. It's nice to see that there are some intelligent men out there who DO respect women! Thank you for that comment. :) THE_A_TEEN- Thank you for your comments as well. Once again, it's nice to see that we, women, are still respected. :)
I think you're all taking this out of proportion. I think twisted_cherub meant she prefers men who are less sensitive. She should've provably stated that was her preference because it's rather subjective.
I'll bet $100 says she likes to be choked while she is getting nailed.
I'm of course talking about twisted_cherub
so what ur saying is that bands like Disturbed and slipknot are full of non real men?
112- I guess that all depends: Do they respect women? Because if not, then no, they're just trash. Sorry. (Note- I have no idea if they do or not. They might very well be fantastic human beings!) :)
*Face palm* Bloodmonger13, I owe you an apology. I misunderstood exactly what you meant/typed about slipknot and being real men. Only after rereading you at 112, did I realize you were responding to the "singing, poetry writing pussy" comment. :p Slipknot writes and sings all their own stuff, yes? I shouldn't comment on anything on 3 hours of sleep, I may only succeed in inserting foot to tonsils. Again, sorry. :p
Out of all the comments, I laughed the most at that (:
Why would it make you uncomfortable? Shouldn't you enjoy it more, as he is rarely romantic? It shouldn't make you uncomfortable, that's just weird.
I've got a man who is just the same, exact way. He doesn't show ANY affection, at all, whatsoever. He doesn't say the little sweet things that I'd like to hear or anything of the sort. It's to a point now that when he does say something remotely 'sweet', I just look at him with a blank stare and say 'Are you okay?'.. I spent forever trying to force him to be affectionate and sweet and what I wanted him to be. But he's the type to joke about 'Get your ass behind the stove!' and 'Did you break your chain to the stove? I guess I'm gonna have to fix it!' and things like that. I guess you just get used to it. And you do get slightly uncomfortable when something remotely nice is said. I feel your... Uuuhh.. Uncomfort, OP? Yeah. Not pain.. Uncomfort.. :(
Discomfort* If you feel like you need to change your partner, it is a sign that they may not be the right person for you. How would you feel if they thought they needed to change something about you? There are over 7 billion people in the world. It's silly to be with someone who can never fulfill what you want in a relationship. I'm not saying bail as soon as you see something you dislike; communication can clear up a lot of misunderstandings and should be attempted first.
63- I knew that was the word I was looking for!! Haha I was like 'Uncomfort? That doesn't sound right.. Hhhmmm... Oh well!' Lol :) There is a lot if history involved. We have built a life together. We are very successful together. I used to be the most affectionate person. I'm all about hugs and kisses and holding hands. But now, I'm just not like that because I've adapted to what he is. It's very sad and pathetic of me. But I just don't know what I'd do if we split. (Not in a crazy way or anything) I guess I've just gotten used to it.
Desiree, I think that's so sad! To be a passionate, vibrant person and deliberately dull it down for someone else? :( I can't imagine wanting to do that to myself! I need hugs and hand holding in my life, everything feels better and "less muted" because of it for me. I don't mean any disrespect, of course I don't know your life history, and I'm not criticizing your choices, it's just for me, that would be like killing a lot of who I am. I'd be....broken. :( You must be made of sterner stuff than me....
No sir. I'm actually a big baby. I do get upset about it alot. I cry often about it. And I still attempt to be affectionate. He's just not like that. I know that him and I aren't good for eachother. He's oil, and I'm water. We don't mix. It's all just a matter of routine. We've gotten used to being together. And we're excellent business partners. That is what keeps us going, really. We are so good for eachother as far as the business goes. But, like I said, I am what you call the 'lovey-dovey' type and he is the exact opposite.
He used to be affectionate. I couldn't keep his hands off of me, at one time. I've heard that's what guys call 'The Fishin' Process'. Fight to reel her in, and then comes the reality. :( I know I should be with a man who appreciates me for who I am. But, like I said, it's routine, a habit, if you will. We've gotten used to eachother. And I wouldn't know how to start over. Lol I'd be the hopeless romantic who'd expect something from the movies. Haha! And I'd end up with a bunch of cats. Lol :)
Well when you've been with someone for almost half your life and you've known the guy for your whole life, yeah.. You're going to be like that about love.. Get off my ass. You be in a relationship like I am and be as involved just like I've been with someone, then come back and throw a bitch-fit to me. Until then, please refrain from ruining my conversation with your shitty comments. Thanks!
(Sorry Desireev, I'd have messaged you instead of posting it openly, but I'm using the iPhone app. No idea if I even can. That being said, I'm still going to comment...) I'm hesitant to voice my opinion about what I think of your love life choices when I truly know so little about the actual details involved. But if I may risk sounding ignorant, being with someone because it's habitual and you're used to each other doesn't seem to be a very good reason to me at all. Especially if you know you should be with someone who appreciates you and wants to return all the affection you crave. :( What happens when you burn out from lack of feedback? Do you truly become cynical and hollow then? Will habit be enough to sustain you just because you don't know how to start over? (Continues....)
You strike me as someone with tremendous heart. The ever rebounding optimist who looks to raise up others around her. I think having that quality muted, snuffed and eventually killed, would be a true shame. :( Perhaps I'm dead wrong, and I very much hope so, as I'm starting to sound "preachy" with my not so humble opinions here. ;) Please don't take offense, I mean no disrespect. (Hugs!)
That's probably a tell tale sign to end a relationship.. Why would you settle this whole time anyways? You deserve better.
tehehehe
What does this have to do with anything?
Honey Badge don't care, honey badger's a badass. Yea, I'm getting thumbed down...
If he were to become /more/ romantic, would the OP then become less uncomfortable? Hey, as long as he treats you good and is respectful. (:
Be happy you have a boyfriend, all I have are my cats
Did you have a aniversiary with them yet?
What new pussy cat, whooooaaaa whoa whooooaaaa, whoa
I hate when people say, "Be happy you have a boyfriend, because some people don't." Some people problems in their relationships. It doesn't mean they can't complain about them simply because some people don't have significant others.
I had the same problem. It sucks

Hopefully you don't have panic attacks when he tells you he loves you OP.
