Today, I received a $20 gift card to Tim Horton's as a prize, and decided to use it. At the register, I was told that I'd essentially won an empty gift card. FML

well, free nothing is better than expensive nothing

Was the prize from an official event or just from something like a friends party? Depends on where you got it, you should request a new one. You shouldn't be cheated out of something you won.

Depending on how you won it, I am pretty sure it's illegal to give a faulty prize. It should be redeemable.

Here is some free advice - you can't make a hungry bear dance!. It is as useless as your gift card, but hey, such is life.

That exact same thing happened to me, but with an Auntie Anne's gift card! I went to that Halloween costume contest dressed up like my male alter ego from an alternate universe for nothing!

If there are alternate universes, then there must be one in which I am male. For a Halloween contest, I dressed as Greg, the male me from that alternate universe. Really, my comment was very straight forward. I don't see how you could possibly not understand it.

I hope you didn't go as Old Gregg... The very though of that gives me nightmares...

I laughed really hard at this, because I'm always concerned that it will happen to me. Hopefully you were still able to buy your $2 double double!!

It just may not have been activated properly. I am sure whoever you won it from will get you a new one. Keep us posted,OP!

I've had problems with empty gift cards too. Now I ask them to first check the balance before I place my orders.

I honestly don't trust timmies gift cards lol. Whenever I use one, I make sure I have enough cash to pay in case they're empty. I hope u had enough change to get ur double double at least.

It's the thought that counts? ;) No, but really, bad luck OP, I hope that you got a new one!
