Today, I received a $20 gift card to Tim Horton's as a prize, and decided to use it. At the register, I was told that I'd essentially won an empty gift card. FML

Today, I was working at Tim Hortons. A lady was in line, and she couldnt make up her mind. 20 minutes later she finally decided to get something, and she reached in her pocket. I was hoping it was a tip, but she gave me a coupon for a haircut. FML

Today, I went with my sister to her company Christmas party. They had a gift raffle, my number was called and I won $25 for a local restaurant. A few moments later, the manager came over and said, "You don't work here? You can't have that" and took it from me. FML

Today, a customer tried to pay for a $1.55 cup of coffee with a gift card, but he came up a dollar short. He let another customer through while he fumbled in his pocket for money. I later noticed a dollar had disappeared from my tip jar. FML

Was the prize from an official event or just from something like a friends party? Depends on where you got it, you should request a new one. You shouldn't be cheated out of something you won.

Cashier's trick. They have a card in their pocket. You hand them the gift card, the palm it, swipe their card, hand you back the empty one. By the time someone figures out their is no money on the gift card its to late to do anything about it. Most people chalk it up to the giver being cheap.

Sometimes when you purchase a gift card the cashier doesn't load it properly. I bet that's what happened. I've had this happen to me too.

Ahh that sucks. I'm sorry. I've been there. Got a $100 giftcard for Xmas, tried to purchase online but card wouldn't work, spent 30mins on the lhone witb customer service, drove 40mins to the store only to be told it had $0 on it. People suck.
