Today, I received the 'special' present my mother had sent me for my 21st birthday. I opened the box and saw that my mother had picked out, accessorized and shipped to me, in college, a doll. FML

Break it open and see if there's money inside. No, but you should keep it, it's a gift from your mom and it's special to her. Keep it in a box in your closet, but when she comes over, put it up on your dresser.

You should just be grateful you have a mom that cares enough about you to send you a present. There are lot of people out there whose parents don't care about them or people who don't have parents at all. I get all kinds of gifts from my family members that I don't like, but I can still appreciate the thought and the effort that went into picking out or making the gift. Also, she's your mom. Although you are 21 and can legally drink, she probably didn't want to give you alcohol or money for alcohol because she wants you to be safe and when your at college drinking a lot of bad things can happen (alcohol poisoning, date rape, drunk driving, etc.). And although she knows you can obtain alcohol yourself she probably doesn't want to contribute because if something WERE to happen to you, she would probably feel guilty if she contributed to it. Idk, that's just what I would be thinking if my child was away at college were I couldn't be there if they needed me. I would probably feel different if they were close to home though. Maybe that's why she got you a doll instead of something alcohol related.

Your moms cares about u and takes time to get u a present fyl! ( sarcasm) spoiled brat

It was probably a camera to see what you do ;O

For all you people bashing her for being ungrateful, creepy doll + college kids results in 90% of people involved being killed in some supernatural way. Don't you know your horror movies?

Hmm... what kind of doll? And don't be spoiled, I'd be happy if my mom sent me something like that, but see, she's one of those people that asks me for money on my birthday rather then think of me. So be happy. One day, you could pass that doll down to your daughter/niece/cousin; and one day, she wont be here and you'll look at that doll in a whole new light.

So? Are you too cool for a doll? Your mom especially picked it out and personalized it for you. As long as I thought the doll was pretty, I would proudly display it on my dresser or something like that...If it's that ugly, just keep it in a spot where only you can see it and it won't be displayed to visitors, like on a shelf in your closet or something, and take it out when she visits.
