Today, I slid on ice and hit another car while driving to work. My car was totalled, and my leg hurt, while the other car had very little damage. Not two minutes later, the salt truck drove by, spraying the road. FML

Nothing like adding a little salt to the wound?

you can be going slow and still slide and crash your car, don't be so daft.

My thoughts exactly :) This actually crossed my mind BEFORE realizing that salt melts ice. (I live in a very hot country, not too familiar)

You hit someone because you were driving too fast for the conditions. it sucks, but it is your fault; deal with it. If the salt truck passed by two minutes before you instead of two minutes after then it probably wouldn't have made any difference because ice doesn't just disappear in an instant. You're a bad driver and you hit someone. Learn to drive better and stop blaming others for your mistakes. YDI

No but it's her fault for not slowing down in conditions like that.

Ok- have you people ever driven on ice? you don't have to be going fast at all, or doing something stupid. just a week ago, i was going a whole 12 Miles an hour, (and didn't turn or brake) and the ice took my car into a spin clear across the street, spun around and then back to other side.. nothing i could do except thank whoever's out there looking out for me that there were no other cars around. So def FYL Op, glad ur ok.

Remember, this isnt your fault, it was just poor weather condition. I had the same experience just last friday, i was driving 40 km/h on a 60 and ironically, i skidded and was trying to turn left and braking to prevent the accident, but i crashed into a wall that was right outside a store. if you get sued, you can take this up to city hall.

The only reason I'm saying YDI is because if you were driving slowly, your car wouldn't have been totaled. Dented, maybe. You are either exaggerating, or you were speeding on ice, which is asking for trouble. It's not your fault if you slide a bit on ice, but it IS your fault if you were driving fast when it's slippery.

You definitely live far enough north being in Ohio to understand that you must drive carefully in winter. If you cannot grasp that and continue to go fast enough to total your freaking car you are a raging moron. Salt is not instant and doesn't give quite enough traction to halt blatant stupidity like driving fast on an icy road YDI

You should of driven for the conditions.

wow the exact same thing happened to my mother a couple years ago. FYL

Inexperienced drivers might wanna buy ice tires. Thicker grooves, more handling, and better grip on icy roads.

Oh, sucks for you. I would have cussed out the road crews.
