Today, I spent three and a half hours creating a Wikipedia page for myself. Three minutes after publishing, it was deleted due to me being a "Non-notable person nobody's ever heard of." FML

Well thats not nice! ps... Could anyone tell me why when I submit a FML.. it never gets posted?

Because the people who moderate your FMLs don't think they're very good, interesting, funny, sad, and/or understandable.

cuz the moderators are ******* stupid. I've sent in like, 7. none ever get approved. doesn't help I've been banned 3 times though ._.

Get a facebook/myspace. Wikipedia is an actual reference site, if you haven't done anything you shouldn't be on there.

well the fact that anyone technically can just go on and make a random page about themselves discredits wikipedia from being a real reference site... not that everyone doesn't use it as one anyway lol

Absolutely not. It is a constantly improving collection of organized information. It has been shown several times to be more accurate then 'edited' sources. It's not intuitive. It is an emergent system. Go read about that on wikipedia.

They have a staff of 300+ moderators.Wikipedias founder did a test of it at a convention and made a nonsense page.Guess how long it took before it got taken down?10 seconds. So it is a refrence website because you have to cite your sources, and it has to have a real purpose and real facts.

@ 78: They CAN'T. That's the entire point. Try thinking before you reply; you'll look less ignorant that way.

why the **** did you make yourself a wikipedia page for?

ydi for not being important enough to have a wikipedia page for yourself.

It is a true waste of your time. Word of advice: don't **** with Wikipedia contributors. They are goddamned hardcore with how they do things, and most of the ones I saw HATE Americans and "Americanizing" words (mechanisation = mechanization", s = z"") As far as I can tell, they're pricks and snobs. The ones I meet, or rather met, I mean. Moral of story: non-applicable.

That's not fair. Most of them aren't like that. True, a few are, but most of them are genuinely trying to make the wiki a better place. I know that I am.

ok yea ppl are just gunu look you up now....what and why were you thinking?

haha that sucks. how do they know no one have heard of you? maybe your colleagues do?

Then get out there and do something with you life. Something Wikipedia-page worthy.

Can somebody please tell me how the **** this is supposed to qualify as an FML? Wikipedia's policies, like them or not, are very clearly laid out on the site, including what it takes to qualify as notable, as well as specific policies regarding writing your own biography. Furthermore, unless OP is Dos Equis' Most Interesting Man in the World, then 3 1/2 hours probably indicates going into far more detail than they allow for even well-known celebrities. Finally, since this got speedy deleted, OP clearly didn't include a single reference for anything, breaking yet another Wikipedia rule. Now, Wikipedia is full of a bunch of pretentious deletionist pricks that I spent months trying to fight before they totally took over, but it's hard for me to say anything other than "YDI" given that it was pretty obvious said pricks would never let such an article stand.

There's a certain irony in questioning the legitimacy of a FML on the basis that OP knowingly breached an obvious site policy... Still - you're right. OP is an idiot.

Hey, I'll agree it's amusing, but at least if something happens to me on account of this post I'm not going to post an FML to bitch about it. If I break the rules, I deserve what's coming to me. That said, I'm not entirely sure what the votes are supposed to be if not "Yeah, that's totally an FML" and "WTF is this doing on this site", so I don't even get why saying something doesn't qualify as an FML is even against the site's rules.

I completely understand your point. My best guess is it's to stop people getting into pissing contests over whose life is more ******, when the aim of the site is for light entertainment. Plus, it'd get boring as hell for the mods to have to read it, and they're nothing if not easily bored! ;)
