Today, I started Lifeguard Training and we had the fitness test you had to pass to continue. I work out everyday and I start on our football team. It's spring break and i've worked everyday (construction). I'm fit. Time comes to take the test, I finished last, beat by a 44 year old woman. FML
I agree, your life sucks 55 143
You deserved it 17 730

bron92 tells us more.

Thanks everyone, haters and all. Let me clear some things up for yall. 1) i did pass, but when i was out of the pool i was GASSED 2) the woman was in pretty damn good shape. I didnt mean to be sexist or ageist. 3) my football team was 11-2. The Ennis Lions, if you wanna check im #64. We were 1 game short of state (loss to rockwall heath) 4) Im not the typical "athlete". I had a pink mohawk in the summer, I listen to no rap and all alternative, I HAVE PINK AND BLACK VANS FOR GODS SAKE. 5) This will surprise you. I'm 6'2 and 230lbs (6% body fat). An offensive lineman, thats why i had some problems. I didn't mean to come off as a jerk, or a "dumb jock",and I actually did somewhat prepare for this test. I had a friend who is a lifeguard teach me and have me swim but I guess it wasn't enough. And, yes, I RESPECT ALL YOU SWIMMERS NOW! haha I learned the hard way

There are 10 types of fitness that get measured. I don't expect that you are actually unfit in any way, but the other people probably just focused on the areas you didn't - which are probably the areas they measured. It's not like you lost to an elderly obese man, you lost to somebody who likely swims as a sport everyday.

I don't know what kind of fitness test this is, but if it's for Lifeguard Training, I'd guess swimming is involved. In which case, I don't care if you're the fittest guy in the world, if you can't swim, you're no good.

i'm a lifeguard and have undergone many trainings. some of the fittest guys can't handle it, just simply because they aren't good ocean swimmers.

I am a swimmer on our school's varsity swim team and a life guard. You do not use the same muscles in football as you so in swimming. The endurance is totally different. I could swim 24/7 but can barley run for 35 minutes. Keep practicing swimming. It is truly a great sport and lots of fun.

This is either bull sh** or you have the worst football team in the nation...

I totally agree with #31. There's lots of Dana Torres in this world - and besides, just because you're physically fit doesn't mean you have lots of talent to swim. =|

Football is all about strength and power, regardless of position. If you're a full back running the ball, you don't want to be able to run for 6 miles without getting winded, you want to be able to run hard for about 10 seconds and most and try to rush your way through someone. If you're a receiver your job is to burst your ass and get open as quick as possible, the actually endurance requirements are fairly low because you have time between plays to catch your breath and time when you switch from offense to defense or vice versa. Swimming, on the other hand, is almost entirely endurance, in fact, the extra muscle mass from power training would likely be more of a hindrance than an asset to a swimmer as muscle is fairly dense and sinks. Yes, a football player swimming is laughable, but put a swimmer on a football team and he'll get destroyed by the first linebacker that looks at him funny. Every physical activity requires you to push your body in different ways.

Lol i've never hated on swimmers *we don't have a swim team* just to clear that up. But yes i learned swimming requires alot more endurance than football. Oh and for the record today was the last day. Passed easily, missed 5 of 80 questions. CPR kicked its ass. Water Skills one of the best *strength actually helped me in this one*

That's not really a fail. I was on the swim team in school - I had decent times, and could keep up with the team during the 4 hour practices 4-5 times a week. But I couldn't run a lap to save my life. Just different types of fitness, y'know? You can't be good at everything, you know.

just cuz u run a lot doesnt mean u can swim and stuff different muscles being used

I swam for 8 years, from 9-17 on summer teams ( and i've been a lifeguard for 3 years ). For Alabama swimmers, I was pretty fast and was invited by a year round team to swim for them. Trust me, swimming requires different muscles and different use of muscles than you use to run and lifting weights doesn't help as much as you think if your technique sucks. Most people's does. Sorry to say 2-3 years of swim lessons doesn't make you swim as fast as you'd like. If you want to get faster and the pool you are going to has a swim team, ask to swim with them. Not gonna lie I think it's pretty pathetic when someone struggles excessively to finish their 500. I'm not as fast as i used to be but still, most lifeguards don't swim well enough for their job.
