Today, I started Lifeguard Training and we had the fitness test you had to pass to continue. I work out everyday and I start on our football team. It's spring break and i've worked everyday (construction). I'm fit. Time comes to take the test, I finished last, beat by a 44 year old woman. FML
I agree, your life sucks 55 143
You deserved it 17 730

bron92 tells us more.

Thanks everyone, haters and all. Let me clear some things up for yall. 1) i did pass, but when i was out of the pool i was GASSED 2) the woman was in pretty damn good shape. I didnt mean to be sexist or ageist. 3) my football team was 11-2. The Ennis Lions, if you wanna check im #64. We were 1 game short of state (loss to rockwall heath) 4) Im not the typical "athlete". I had a pink mohawk in the summer, I listen to no rap and all alternative, I HAVE PINK AND BLACK VANS FOR GODS SAKE. 5) This will surprise you. I'm 6'2 and 230lbs (6% body fat). An offensive lineman, thats why i had some problems. I didn't mean to come off as a jerk, or a "dumb jock",and I actually did somewhat prepare for this test. I had a friend who is a lifeguard teach me and have me swim but I guess it wasn't enough. And, yes, I RESPECT ALL YOU SWIMMERS NOW! haha I learned the hard way

There are 10 types of fitness that get measured. I don't expect that you are actually unfit in any way, but the other people probably just focused on the areas you didn't - which are probably the areas they measured. It's not like you lost to an elderly obese man, you lost to somebody who likely swims as a sport everyday.

I don't know what kind of fitness test this is, but if it's for Lifeguard Training, I'd guess swimming is involved. In which case, I don't care if you're the fittest guy in the world, if you can't swim, you're no good.

A movement training instructor once told me that all people are either natural swimmers or natural runners. Very few people are naturally great at both. If you're a football player, you probably run a fair bit, do laps, etc., and it sounds like you must have good muscular strength. Swimming requires your lungs to function slightly different than with other things. For one thing, you can't breathe continuously the way you do with stuff where your face isn't in the water, your breath cycle is suspended in the middle. It really changes things. Don't be disheartened - just start swimming more, maybe?

yea i took that... its not how fit you are, because im in terrible shape and i can beat the star qb on our football team in swimming. you just have to practice swimming

ahahhah, I've had to take that test... it's really not that hard...

Never assume because you are "fit" that you are swimming fit, underestimation of difficulty FAIL

Swimming is really difficult, and guys that are super-fit tend to have a hard time, because muscle sinks. Don't feel bad about it! We had wrestlers try to go through one swim practice, and they hardly made it through the warm up... they were in great shape.

I don't believe that at all, its such an easy test... stop whinning, bitchin, and making up stories

and yes #56 and #55... super over confidence FAIL

Dude i swim competitive and we have football players try out for the swim team and they cant last... It has nothing to do with "being fit" swimming is all practice practice practice!

I agree. Swim is one of the hardest sports I do. It's exhausting, but better than any other sport when it comes to working out.

Silly football player! It's all that muscle! I'm a lifeguard, a female mind you, I am not that fit, I mean, I have a lot of muscle and I do lift every day, but I do have a lot of body fat that I should lose, but when it comes time for our training ever summer, I always lead the guys and teaching them how to stroke. Guys with big arm muscle and dense bodies tend to sink because they are so heavy. Plus...you gotta know how to swim too. >.< That is also a usual problem..
