Today, I started my new internship at a vet clinic. By the end of the day I had: been peed on, scratched, forced to stuff a dead dog into a plastic bag, thrown up and almost passed out. I need to rethink my future career. FML

Ha! I can't believe this actually got posted!! I had just gotten home from my internship and wanted to vent anonymously. How funny. It is overwhelming, but I'm going to stick it out. I've learned my lesson: do not go in sick or with a full stomach.

Well what did you expect to happen when working with animals?

Wait till you have to jerk off a dog

It's really not that bad once you get used to it.. I've worked in that career for about 3 years. You'll adjust. On the other hand, if you are blood queasy, quit now. Cleaning up blood pools and splatters are a daily thing.

What were you expecting? Just meeting cute animals and chilling with them?

I used to work at an animal hospital and let me tell you it's a dirty job. I was scratched, almost bitten and had to give two pitbulls their medicine via their dog food. A good paying job but a crappy one at that. If you're not ready for this career time to rethink it.

Wait... You get paid to be scratched and peed on? I thought that was just normal foreplay...

Welcome to my life :) I intern with a vet and have had to do all that and worse (tiger pee smells horrible). But it is good that you did intern with a vet. A lot of people go into the field and then realize it isn't what they want to do. This was a great learning experience! And there are a ton of other animal related jobs other than vet

I am not sure how your internship works. If you are done with school and now doing internship, sorry you wasted so much time; if you are doing it while in school, at least you can find out early on. People are telling you that you will get used to it, this is not necessarily true. Only you can know if you can do this every day, don't waste time thinking you will eventually get used to it. I changed my major six times before I found what I want to do. It is not a big deal if you change careers. Good luck!

You think animals are bad? Aside from the "stuffing a dead dog in a bag" bit, this was my first day as a NURSE

I agree with #75. I am an RN and I deal with geriatrics mostly so it's just another work day for me

What did you expect? Beany Babies on clouds and rainbows?
