I always hit basketballs with my softball bat at practice. nothing like that has ever happened.

When I was a kid, I hit a basketball with a large stick. Dislocated my thumb. But I didn't want to go to the doctor, so I didn't tell, and it healed that way. Still can't bend my thumb to this day.

I did that once except I broke my orbital bone instead of just getting stitches. Somebody threw it to me so there was more force. I didn't just throw it in the air if that's what you did.
