Today, I told my girlfriend of 2 years that I was sexually abused as a kid. She was only the third person I've told. She reacted by breaking up with me because I "might do something" to her kids. FML

Abuse is a horribly traumatic thing to endure at any point in your life. I'm sorry OP that you had to go through that. I hope the person that hurt you is rotting in jail or in hell. I have 0 tolerance for abusers. I hate people that make excuses for someone that's abusive. You shouldn't be able to walk this earth if you allow such evil to escape from your body! I have dealt with so many sex offenders and it makes me sick to think about the things these people would do. Your girlfriend is obviously being insensitive, but she may just be scared.

Dude, your girlfriend is a bitch. I'm sure she wouldn't say the same thing if she was the one who had been abused. I've been down that road, and it sucks enough already. But for someone to be THAT cruel and insensitive...I can't even imagine the pain from that. I'm so sorry, man.

So does she think that if her is get sexually abused they will turn into rapists automatically? I can't even comprehend how stupid and insensitive she is. Sexual abuse does not make you someone who will do the same in the slightest form. It's a traumatic and scaring experience. Thankfully, most people aren't so ignorant. You will find the person who is right for you, OP. Try not to pay mind to people who are so dumb because they don't deserve your attention. As for her, she will realize how stupid she is eventually. That is a hard bit of baggage to take on. It was wrong of her to assume you would do something with your hypothetical future children. However, it is not uncommon for the cycle to continue by the victim. She should know you after 2 years though so the concern is either ignorance and stupidity, or you have exhibited certain actions that worried her. My take is that she is just stupid. Hope you find someone better.
