I think this is a bit of a porky pie. Driving test examiners wouldn't be allowed to drive the car as they are not insured. If the test goes horribly wrong then they have to stop the car and walk back to the test centre with the car keys so your driving instructor can come and pick you up.
Yes they can. That is how you are insured to drive your instructor's car. At least they are in the UK. I don't know where you're from so I don't know the rules there. And all the people saying it's a long test, mine took about 35 minutes and I passed first time with only 2 minors. OP, I don't know what happened but my parents told me that all the best people pass second time (they both took two attempts, my sister also passed first time) So just have some more lessons and try again.
