Today, I wanted to punish a student for being late. I decided to start a pop quiz before he arrived. I was positive there wasn't enough time for him to finish. He scored full marks and I couldn't say a word. FML

Define 'life' for me. Because technically I have a life because I'm alive. If you mean have a life like 'be cool' then you might have to define 'cool' because I think we have different opinions of what is cool.

Okay well mr. I'm a bad ass don't be late to my class, teacher, you obviously don't understand children. Don't assume students who are always late, or just late as dumb, or unsuccessfull. Judgemental ass, to teach is to, fill ones mind with unknown/ or expanded knowledge. Not to punish them, i hope one of them glues a pin to your chair, how do them blue balls feel now?

Those who can, do. Those who cannot, teach. YDI for being a failure in life. The best you can hope to do as a teacher is to not block the Do'ers, maybe even help them out (realize the fact that they're a hell of a lot more busy than you are, it's not their fault that they're trying to fit 25 hours worth of stuff into 24 hour days and so can't quite make it to class in time,) and maybe they'll thank you for it when they one of the nobel prizes.

How do you know all the pupils are busier than the OP? Yes, some are very busy, others don't even bother doing the work. You can't make such a generalised statement. Also, are you calling the OP a failure because he got pwned by the kid or because he's a teacher? Not all teachers are failures and stupid, some are really great teachers, some start off that way and become crappy because of the way the students have treated them over the years. Granted some are just crappy.

I know, my comments were mean, but I've never known a teacher that I didn't consider a failure who was mean like this. All of my teachers who weren't failures weren't teaching because they failed to get where they wanted in life, but because they had made it where they wanted, did it for 40 years, and then went into teaching so that they could pass on their invaluable (the prefix in- means very, btw, like, inflammable,) experiences to future generations. People shouldn't be allowed to teach until they're 60+ years old, the 20 year olds that teach are all failures (albeit, some are fun anyways.)

I had a teacher during my Alevels who was three years out of teacher training and probably in her late twenties/early thirties who was actually quite good. I also had a teacher (for the same subject) who'd been there and done what he'd wanted to do with his life and then ended up teaching and was a complete prick. Then again we balanced that out with the one who'd done it all and then ended up teaching and was a complete legend. Basically the invaluable (and I did know what that meant without your explanation) experience doesn't always help, especially now school is about the learning/teaching of a strict syllabus. But if I'm honest I think we might be arguing the same point, though 60+ is pushing it. If you're going to put a limit on it it should be 40+, but there are some people who really want to be teachers anyway. One thing I never got was how the surprise test thing worked. We were always given warnings about tests, and if a teacher tried to give us one without telling us about it before hand we'd complain and they'd simply have to wait till the next lesson if they didn't want their entire class to fail on purpose.
