That's one of those questions that could be awkward or innocent. I don't think you did anything wrong. She could have just told you that she had a check-up, and then leave it at that.

That's really not that weird of a question. Most people ask something along the same line whenever a doctor's appointment is mentioned. Usually it's more like, "hopefully for nothing serious?" or something similar, but it wasn't that odd.

You should have preceded with "I'm interested in becoming a doctor and I wanted to know if I can help you"
She didn't have to say she was seeing her gynecologist, I would have done the Barney Rubble thing and answered, "My doctor-doctor, not my dentist-doctor".
