The person i had ordering was a close friend of which i am very comfortable with. I guess you could say i got a little too comfortable! After we realized what I did, we just laughed and brushed it off. From now on i will make sure i wear gloves because I wouldn't want this to happen to anyone i don't know!

It was probably more disturbing when they saw where the 'mayo' came from..
Seriously? No-one wants to know that.
Forget the part about doing it front of a customer, the real question is why lick up mayonnaise?
as long as it was tasty :))
Before I even get to the whole point about you licking your fingers, how in the hell can you eat mayo like that?! That's the bigger cause of concern. But for real though I would've talked to your manager and left and wrote on FML on how my sub maker was licking his fingers of mayo and I couldn't eat my sub.
yuck.
Accidents happen. Easy to fall in to bad habits. My question is, when you saw the horror on the customers face, what was your response? Make the dude a new sandwich?
I sure hope you were wearing gloves and could swap out before touching their sub again
That's just nasty! You're serving other people food. Reminds me of the time I went to my local coffee/sandwich shop and I saw a girl making a sandwich for my mom. She walked outside and touch the doorknob while having gloves on. I know she probably changed them but I asked her to make it over again.
I wash my hands every chance I get or I carry around sanitizer because I know people are disgusting. I sure as hell wouldn't do what OP did. That's just beyond wrong. I know it might have been out of habit and what not but you're working at a sub shop, not making a sandwich in your own kitchen

I hope you don't do that often.
Totally unacceptable. One would think you get paid to pay attention to the duties of your job
