106: Vegetarians and vegans would not go off on a rant about how buying supermarket meat is better and more humane than a farmer raising an animal is a good environment then eating it himself. Most vegetarians and vegans become vegetarians and vegans because of how inhumane the animals who are slaughtered for supermarkets are treated. Don't make ignorant comments next time.
don't you get attached to the chickens?
If the animals are being raised to be consumed, I would assume not; I worked for a trainer who also raised cattle, and while the animals were treated kindly, they were not of 'pet' status. Some people raise chickens/cows/whatever as pets, but from the sounds of it, OP is not one of them. (Which, actually, I am glad about, since even though it's completely irrational, it bothers me when people treat animals with 'pet' status, and then turn it into dinner).
I said YDI because I'm vegetarian & don't eat anything with a mother! The "good" people that get their meat from a store have no idea what they're talking about!
Plants have "mothers" too. Mother plants are often used in cloning, several species of plants have seperate male and female plants, and many have male and female flowers. What you're eating, as a vegetarian, are the offspring of plants. Oftentimes the seeds, or the fleshy part surrounding the seed. You're eating life before it has even had a chance to live, unlike us meat-eaters, at least whatever we put in our mouths has had a glimpse of the world.
Woah there buddy! While it's completely fine if you chose to not eat animals for whatever reason, there's really no need to run around bashing us omnivores. Everyone's got an opinion, and you're free to express it, but just... Be nice and not here-are-my-views-and-i-am-better-than-you-because-of-it. Fun fact, not everyone who eats meat condones the mistreatment of animals.
Such a shame you have to suffer because of people's stupidity. Hang in there op.
So you ran into Snookie
I tell vegans that the bacteria on the vegetables they eat are living things. Apparantly, their hypocrisy knows no bounds :)
I know some people have mentioned things similar to this, but those chickens are probably better taken care of than those commercial farms; animals raised for the lulz/raised for the love of it are often cared for more humanly than those raised by people who do so for a profit. So what if that person is stupid; you know where your animals came from and how they were treated :3
Ok economics lesson beef 4 bucks a lb for cheep stuff ie: hamburger deer after hunting licenses and tags and butchering fees up to six deer legally = less than 1$ a pound for everything from steak to roast to burger add 2$ a lb for summer sausage now chickens farm raised is about the same ratio for cost evaluation and I know what went into the bird and how humane it was treated etc peace of mind = priceless so you keep on and don't let the idiots get you down.
"hey mom, why did thr chicken cross the road" "who let out thee cheekens!?, do you know how much I payed for those cheekens?" "mom it's just a joke" "oh it's no joke"

Yes, god-fearing people buy their meat from the big companies who keep their chickens stacked in a square foot box, stacked 10 high in rows of 100, where mans dominion is unquestioned, how dare you blaspheme and raise chickens in a sustainable manner.
But chickens aren't animals, remember?
