If you were actively seeking employment during the work day, even on lunch, then you deserve it. It's company equipment and that is not likely an approved use. However depending on your state, you don't list it, if you were fired because they contacted your current employer, then you have grounds for a wrongful termination suit
This is how they screw you. It's either that, or you can't get the time off work to attend interviews. Or a lot of the time, I find, companies don't like offering jobs to people who already have jobs. So what do you do, quit your job in the hopes someone else will hire you? Then six months and hundreds of applications later you're still unemployed, and NOW (as OP said) no company will touch you. FYL, OP, but even more than that, **** the system :(
It's a catch-22. How many people are lucky enough to land their dream job on the first try? What about when you've been unemployed for a while and get desperate and take a job you're overqualified for? How is there ANY alternative to "actively seeking other employment", for any of us, ever?? Who stays in one job their whole life??
Why? Just why? YDI all around!
Whooooa, why so much YDI? You know that's unfair dismissal, right?!
They really can't fire you for that, you could actually sue them just for that reason.
Keywords
The only way they could have found out that you were looking for another job is if you A) mentioned it or B) used your current boss as a reference. In either case, you're an idiot.
And also well established means of producing a regular income to support oneself and possibly family. You got the main points though.
