Today, I was fired from my job. The reason? My boss didn't feel comfortable paying his son's girlfriend. FML

Depending on the context, it might be a good thing he doesn't feel comfortable paying his sons gf...

you can prob actually make a complaint for that. he doesn't have any work related reason and he can't fire you for personal issues

I'm sure he thinks his son is already paying you to be his "girlfriend" and he just wasn't into double-dipping.

Wrongful termination, I think. I could see how you dating his son may be a little awkward for him, but that's not cause to fire somebody.

Yeah it sucks, but you did put your boss in a ethical dilemma. He now had a conflict of interests with your employment. If he treated you favorably it could be seen as favoritism because of your connection with his son. If he reprimanded you for something, then he could get backlash from his son. While you may not see the conflict of interests, he certainly did. I don't fault him for his actions, but I also empathize with your predicament.

Yeaaaah. That isn't an 'ethical dilemma'. At all.... It isn't unethical to employ someone whom you have a relationship with outside of work. Perhaps some may misconstrue some of his actions as being unethical (like if he gives her a raise or something someone might think it's because she is his son's girlfriend) but nothing about employing her was unethical.

It's only unethical if the OP or her former boss make it unethical by asking for special favors, giving unearned promotions, etc. Just because other people think she's getting favored treatment, when she's really not, does not make it unethical.

Sue that ************, he can't fire you for that!

Now you'll have learned an important lesson for your next job: don't date the boss' son. In fact, such relationships are a violation of the law in some cases.

What law are you referring to?

I guess he'll soon realize how uncomfortable he feels when you're around because he fired you. I can understand why someone would do this. It sounds like you've been working there for a while, so I'm actually thinking this is his excuse. If you were just hired, wouldn't you have talked to him (or if not you, your boyfriend would have talked to him) about the job / interview process?

Dump the boyfriend and take your job back....
