Today, I was looking at tattoos and fell in love with a really cool looking one, so I decided to get it. I later showed it to a friend who is a cop. He informed me that it is a gang tattoo. I think I just put a target on my ankle. FML

That's why you never, ever get a tattoo out of a book. Always pay the extra to have it designed for you. It's worth the extra money.

Sounds like you got a tattoo to get a tattoo. The meaning and artistry behind the tattoo should be so important that you don't just go "I think I want a tattoo today, so ill just pick one". It'll be on you forever, YDI for not putting any thought into it.

Always a good idea to research a tattoo and think about it for a while before getting it. Google is your friend :)

Most tattoos are designed to look good, chances that they're affiliated with a gang are incredibly slim and, since a lot of tattoos are similar, researching one in particular could be near impossible.

You totally deserved this one! From how you wrote this, it even sounds as though you walked into the tattoo parlor off the street and simply picked a tattoo out of their "selection". ALWAYS do your research on whatever you're going to be putting on your body, and ALWAYS take more time than you think you need to put some actual thought into what you're doing.

Moral of the story: never, ever for any reason, get flash tattooed on you. If you can't come up with any ideas that are original and say something about your life and you as a person then you have no business getting tattoos.
