Today, I was on a first date. When the bill came, he refused to pay for my $6 salad. I had to go ATM-hunting to pay for my $6 salad. FML

Why do you expect the guy to pay on the first date? You obviously had no intend of paying, so you left your money home in case he did not pay for you. But boohoo he didn't anyway. Also, you sound like a girl that only orders a salad and then eats half the food of other peoples plates.

Why did you expect him to pay for everything? I don't know who asked, but it's rude to expect people to pay for your meals, etc without at least talking to them first

regardless of if it was a date or hanging out as friends it is $6. That's small change. It's at least polite to pay for your dates or even a friend's meal if they don't have it on them and my god it's $6!!! what a cheap ass. This coming from a guy but seriously don't be a cheap ass. But also OP don't assume he'll pay for everything some people are assholes

YDI. I always made sure I had enough money to pay for both meals and get myself home afterwards. Thankfully, never needed it, but made sure I had it in case. I will also be teaching my daughter the same thing, always make sure you have enough to pay the whole bill and get yourself home safely.
