Today, I was opening a present my boyfriend got me for my 21st birthday. What I unwrapped was a Kay jewelers box. Excited, I opened it to find a ring made out of a one dollar bill. FML

This is the poster, and actually I had bought him a promise ring on valentines day. He used the box I gave him....I just thought. I might have been getting one in return. And no, I am not materialistic or ungrateful, and I know he can afford it. Just got my hopes up. If he had JUST given me the ring, it would have been great.

Well he had to have gotten the box for buying something from Kay, so maybe the ring will come out later and he just wanted to see your reaction and if you were excited or not :)

FML can be a harsh place, don't take it personally. And if you're really upset, just do what I do! Get a techie friend to track them down, then break in in the middle of the night and glue their balls/crotch to their hand. :)

Was it like a drilled out dollar coin or did the man have it melted down and produce a ring of his own work? That would be far more romantic if he made it himself.

And if it was melted. It was a sacrifice of value to coin collectors anywhere. Much more if you ask me compared to a store bought ring. For the ring isn't "aged" where coins have years on them. Who knows, maybe in the coin/ring he gave you, could've been worth 50 times as much as any ring in the next 50 years spent with you. Long story short. Appreciate the little unnoticed things. I guess. FML

You can even get nice jewelry from Kay for under $100 if you don't get the protection plan. I have several pieces from there that were under $100 before the protection plan, including a purple penguin necklace which is my favorite.
