Today, I was reading my students' Halloween stories I made them write for my creative writing class in high school. One of my students wrote about attacking me. She got my street address perfect and everything. FML

Zero tolerance is such a bad way to conduct power around schools. When I was in high school, they used that policy, and every single time someone reported that I was selling dope, I'd get searched. I've never touched any drug (controlled substance) in my life. Example of how the zero tolerance policy only works when the people utilizing aren't complete idiots.

Um, selling "dope" is a really serious offense. Whether you were actually selling it or not, they had every right to question or search you if they thought that was going on in their school.

I thought this same thing, then thought to myself that it was probably a typo. Then I realized that writing teachers should also know to proofread anything before it is submitted... So, I agree completely with this statement.

Hmmm... she is literally threatened in writing by a student deranged enough to not realize she would get in SERIOUS trouble for writing a story where she attacks her teacher by name... and YOU think she deserves it because she missed an apostrophe in writing her FML? Selling "dope" is a really serious offense. Whether you were actually selling it or not, they had every right to question or search you. That kind of crap is a level four offense and is up for an immediate expulsion hearing in most states.

one would think that an internet user knows how not to double post, or that people dont like to bring their work home with them. you dont see surgeons carving open people after work, so why should teachers bother with proper grammar?

Actually physicians bring a lot of work home with them. Maybe not in the form of surgeries, but they're still reading relevant articles and probably doing billing or something. The only reason they don't bring more home is because surgeons work 60-80 hours per week. But the real reason I commented was to point out that everyone should bother with proper grammar every minute of every day. If you're an english teacher, you should understand the importance of writing something that can be easily understood by your audience, most of whom are reading far below grade-level these days. The American education system is terrible and public schools just keep passing kids through.

OMG do people not relize that she got his street right? That's just freaky! I'm sure that the OP wouldn't be as freaked out if his student wasn't that accurate. I would definatley show this to a psycologist, you can never be too safe!

yes, you can be "too safe". any mortal power that can keep you absolutely safe can lock you in a box. I'd probably pass it on to the school psychologist for an evaluation. and grade the paper 'S' for 'stalker'.

Well it was a Halloween story so it was supposed to be scary. Since youre creeped out by the student's assignment, that means he/she deserves an A . anyways, the student can easily find your name thru the phonebook if listed or zabasearch.com.
