Today, I was riding my bike with my parents. They make me wear a helmet when I'm with them. Some college age kids drove past and yelled, "Nice helmet!" My mother then told me, "They like you!" I'm sixteen and my helmet is blue. With flowers. FML

At least you are being safe... I had a friend die because he wasn't wearing a helmet. your parents are smart.

As much as I personally would like a blue helmet with flowers, I understand. I'm a college kid, and I'm willing to risk brain injury than be seen using a helmet on campus.

I'm saying this out of and incident that happened to me I'm lucky to still be alive the helmets nowadays are cheap foam and plastic really cant help you mine nearly killed me. i was ridding in the bike lane a car turned suddenly no turn signal didn't look to check for bikers hit me sent me and my bike flying my head hit a brick wall the helmet was crushed and squeezing my head brand new, on top of it the driver cussed me out for scratching his car and called the cops while I'm lucky to be alive. So with that i say that today's helmets don't do all that they should to help us i have actually been safer with out one. i am 18 now and have been hit by ten cars (all their fault) lost my handle bars and many other things most of them no helmet and im still happy and safe with no brain damage

Its not uncommon for people to have two helmets; one for going around town, and one for more serious stuff. In my case, i have a bmx style 'lid' i wear out and about, because i don't want to wear my full face DH helmet everywhere i go; i'd be safer, but i couldn't look much more stupid.

I had worse. Before i knew about this site (about a year ago) my mom made me wear a helmet. I was called a pussy and had a rather large rock (about 4-5 inches in diameter) hit me on the side of my face. I was out for a good 10 minutes.
