Today, I was told by my teacher that she had 'given up' teaching me because someone had told her I have a mental illness, and that I don't understand what she says. FML

She told you this to your face? o.o I don't understand how a teacher could ever say that, even if she (god forbid) thought it.

We need more teachers who actually help students and not just give up on them. How are they suposed to get better at something if no one is helping them to?

And the worst teacher of the year award goes to...

Not to mention that "mental illness" is not autism or any learning disorder, but anxiety/depression/PTSD, and more extreme cases phobias, bipolar, psychosis, schizophrenia; any of which may impact consistency but not necessarily capability. Your teacher is ignorant and discriminatory.

Wouldn't matter she's still being ableist. Besides, some of the most intelligent and respected people have (or had) learning difficulties. Such as John Lennon, Pierre Curie, Albert Einstein and Jim Carrey.

Anyone who thumbed down my comment clearly did not understand me. I was saying that it does not matter that it was a mental illness and not a learning difficulty, because the teacher was still being an ableist by giving up on op. > . >. Action should be taken against the teacher.

Tell the principle and your parents. She's passing judgement on something that isn't true. If you couldn't be taught you wouldn't be in school Or reg classes. By her doing this, you won't pass the class.

I had a teacher say the same thing. brush it off and rise about her.

The ease at which she accepts your "disease". Does she also believe that all female Chinese wear dresses to the knees? Or that the moon is made of cheese?
