Today, I was trying to fix a stapler, but it turns out it wasn't broken at all. It wouldn't staple a small stack of papers but had no trouble stapling through my finger. FML

OP here. Apparently this requires more explanation than I thought. The stapler was jammed so I opened the top to see if the staples were stuck. When I went to close it, the top took a lot of force to close again. My hand slipped and it sent a staple into my finger. It was an accident. I wasn't "testing it out on my finger." At the time, I was in school. I was using the only stapler in the library and it's not like I could leave school in the middle of the day to "go buy a new one." Have a little more faith in me.

That's why we don't test out staplers on our fingers

Oh my gosh, OP! That must have really hurt! I hope your finger gets better soon!

This happened to me today... Can't move my finger at all

I shoot myself with nail guns and staple guns on an almost weekly basis (hazard of being a carpenter). I don't see how stapling your finger with an office staple makes your finger inoperable. I have stapled my hand to the piece I was working on before and still finished it without problem or first aid.

Because some people have more tolerance to pain than others.

I stapled through my thumb nail when I was in 3rd grade and I could still move my finger. Unless you stapled right on a joint I don't see why it would prohibit you from moving your finger.

I read this as "I don't know how to use a stapler. FML."

You may have just found a Deceptacon, be wary of all your office supplies and especially that photocopier that keeps getting jammed. Deceptacons a more than meets the eye, stay sharp OP.

I've done this! Thought my thumb was below the slot-majobby. I was a kid at the time and was proud of myself for not crying.

Ouch! Hope you're okay OP! Once I did that too and a piece of the staple actually got lodged in my hand and I was at school. I wouldn't have been able to go home (both my parents work far away), so I took a safety pin and finally got it out. Hurt like hell but :/

A new stapler is $5. Why would you waste time trying to fix one and getting yourself hurt. I bet if your boss/supervisor saw you wasting time fixing a stapler then he would yell at you and tell you to buy a new one So I have to say you deserve what you got for wasting company time.

Yeah, but how much time you gonna waste going out to buy a new stapler? Or are you just not going to deal with the paperwork or whatever that needs to be done because you don't have a stapler? Usually a staple just got stuck and it's like a minute to fix it. And if you keep your fingers clear of where the staples come out it's not going to hurt you. Also nowhere did it say this was at work. Maybe it was at home for an assignment they have to turn in to school later, or for something personal like some writing they did and want to keep together or something.

A paper clip or binder clip didn't cross your mind?

Why did you test it on you finger? :o
