Well that sucks.
For all those that claim that MS Word sucks and that there are plenty of "good" applications that don't autosave: apparently, not *that* good. I consider MS Word to be the bare minimum when it comes to standards. And apparently there's a lot of software out there that doesn't even come up to par with Word. A tip if you use that kind of software: switch to something that *does* offer an autorecover function.
Some of you people are retarded. I've been using Word and Works for over 10 years, and its ALWAYS auto-saved. "But he/she might not use word" True, but Word is pretty much the standard now. If s/he isn't using Word, then it's something they chose. They are not a computer novice, so they are ******* RETARDED for not knowing to auto-save. "But they might use a mac" well then they deserved it. Kidding. But yeah, you Mac people are supposed to be hip and smart. Someone said Ever hear of a thing called Linux? Listen, if someone used Linux, there is NO WAY IN HELL that they would forget to save. Linux people are smart. This wouldn't happen to them. But yeah, new versions of windows (7, for instance) won't shut down until you close all apps, or force a shutdown. And, 90 percent of computers have to have the power button held. AND the OP said "the power button on the computer" not "on the powerstrip" you retards.
#175 : tl;dr.
@#172: It's funny that you consider MS Word the "bare minimum" since it's a bloated program with *way* too many features that few people, if any, ever use. Like, seriously, more than 90% of the features are used by fewer than 10% of the people. Since I actually know how to *save* my work, I never considered autorecover that big of a deal. I'll gladly take something smaller, lighter, faster, and easier that does what I need over Word any day. And, in fact, I do. I use vim for all of my editing purposes. Granted, it also autorecovers, but it's not a feature I _ever_ need, and I essentially turn it off.
@#173: I think most of the people who were saying these things were making the point that this wasn't necessarily a fake FML and that it was actually a YDI for the reasons you pointed out: OP had to be pretty retarded. Besides, you're assuming that the OP set up the system all by emself, which isn't really a good assumption. I know a lot of people who have Ubuntu systems that other people set up for them, and they would probably not be saving every ten minutes, either. And, even if 90% of computers require you to hold the power button, the point is that it's stupid to call fake on this FML. And, again, the power button behavior is _configurable_, so you really can't try to say how other peoples' computers work.
Probably said before but usually a computer needs the power button to be pressed for 4 or 5 whole seconds before it shuts down... and yes you should always save in between...

Ans THAT'S why you should save every 2 seconds... No but that really sucks...
A new version of the dog ate my homework, cool :D Still sucks though!
